Welcome to First Baptist Church

Mission Statement

We exist as a church to glorify God by making disciples of all people; disciples who manifest their maturity by exalting God in worship, by edifying and equipping believers for service, and by evangelizing nonbelievers.

Who We Are

First Baptist Church is an independent Baptist church serving Southern Maryland since 1957. Our warm and caring congregation enjoys worshiping and serving the Lord through a variety of ministries and outreach programs. We always welcome new friends and look forward to meeting you!

Visiting First Baptist

What to wear?

Do I dress casual? Like I'm going to work? Like I'm relaxing with friends? Like I am going out for dinner? Well, the easy answer is, "Yes!" When you arrive at First Baptist Church, you'll find some in business casual, some in their "Sunday Best," and others dressed more casually. What you’re wearing makes no difference to us.

Where do I go?

It can be intimidating walking into an unfamiliar building, so our greeters are ready to welcome you with a smile, a bulletin, and directions to where you need to go.

Our nursery and children's programs are staffed by safe, caring and creative people. You will find the nursery upstairs behind the sanctuary. Most of our children's Sunday School classes are down the hall on your left as you enter the glass doors. Our Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 a.m. If you arrive a little earlier you can meet in the gym for fresh coffee.

As you enter our building, please feel free to ask our greeters any questions you may have. They will be happy to direct you to a class appropriate to you. We want you to feel welcome and comfortable.

What are your services like?

Our traditional worship services are engaging and uplifting. For any of our services we would encourage you to arrive about 10 minutes early so you'll have time to park and find a seat.

Sunday Morning at 10:30 a.m.

This is our main service. The Sunday morning service is focused on allowing those present to worship God in spirit and in truth. These services normally include congregational singing, musical presentations, and a time of preaching.

Sunday Evening at 6:00 p.m.

Our Sunday evening services address various topics of interest from the Bible. They tend to be a little more casual than Sunday morning and have more of a teaching style.

Wednesday Bible Study & Prayer Meeting

Each Wednesday we have a Bible Study followed by a prayer meeting.  Bring the kids because we offer Awana during the school year and Patch the Pirate during the summer months.

Are you going to make a big deal about me being there?

No! Now we can't help it when our members introduce themselves, say hello, and ask you about yourself. . . but we promise not to shine any lights on you, make you stand up, or be otherwise embarrassed. Pastor would love an opportunity to meet you. You can find him in the lobby or by the gym door after the service. Generally, he is pretty easy to spot, but if you are having trouble finding him, just ask where the pastor is and someone will be happy to help you.
