Youth Ministries
At First Baptist Church of Calvert County we believe it is important to impart principles of God's Word and lessons of the spiritually mature to the next generation. Not only do we want to supply solid Biblical principles and truths to our young people, but we also want to help them make application in their own lives. First Baptist has several programs set up to accomplish this goal.
Our programs:
Wednesdays
"Journey" - Our junior high young people study various topics that are pertinent to their age group. By memorizing verses and reading Bible passages they are able to earn activities and rewards. The curriculum we use is published by AWANA.
"24/7"
The senior high group studies through various books of the Bible in order to gain a well-rounded understanding of God's Word. The AWANA workbooks we use contain verses to memorize and Bible passages to read. The senior high students also earn rewards and special activities if they complete the curriculum.
Sunday School
In Sunday School the teens are taught Bible lessons in a classroom setting. The principles they learn here provide a solid foundation to help them live a godly life in a sinful world. Our goal is for the teenagers to not merely grow in Bible head knowledge, but more importantly in their relationship with the Lord.
Social Activities
First Baptist has organized activities for the teens on a regular basis. These activities include open gym nights, lock-ins, shopping trips, sports activities, camping trips, and more. Through these get-togethers the young people are able to form lasting relationships with other Christians.
Ministry Opportunities
Mission Trips--First Baptist frequently takes adults and youth on mission trips to aid a missionary in a project and to evangelize the surrounding area. In January, 2009 we took a trip to Ecuador. Hundreds of people were saved during this trip and a lot of construction completed on a church.
Summer Camp
Every year we take a group of our kids to The Wilds for a time of spiritual renewal.
Youth Conferences
First Baptist occasionally takes the teens to conferences to help educate and encourage them. Our most recent trip was the LIT (Leadership in Training) for Christ Conference at Anchor Baptist Church.
Various Ministry Activities
We will often mix a trip to a city with an opportunity to hand out tracts or minister to people in the area.
