Frequently Asked Questions

What to wear

Do I dress casual? Like I'm going to work? Like I'm relaxing with friends? Like I am going out for dinner? Well, the easy answer is, "Yes!" When you arrive at First Baptist Church, you'll find some business casual, some "Sunday Best," and some dress casual. We aren't concerned with what you are wearing when you join us. . . we just want you to join us.

Where do I go?

It can be intimidating walking into an unfamiliar building, so we have greeters prepared to give you a warm smile, a bulletin, and help you get to where you are going. That being said, where are you going?

We have a great nursery and children's program that is staffed by safe, caring and creative people. You will find the Nursery upstairs behind the sanctuary. Most of our children's Sunday School Classes are down the hall on your left as you enter the glass doors. Our Sunday School classes begin at 9:45. If you arrive a little earlier you can meet in the gym for fresh coffee.
As you enter our building, please feel free to ask our greeters any questions you may have. They will be happy to direct you to a class appropriate to you. We want you to feel welcome and comfortable.

When are your services?

Sunday morning at 11:00
This is our main service. The Sunday morning service is focused on allowing those present to worship God in spirit and in truth. These services normally include congregational singing, musical presentations and a time of preaching.

Sunday evening at 6:00
Our Sunday evening services address various topics of interest from the Bible. They tend to be a little more casual than Sunday morning and to have a more teaching-like style.

We would encourage you to arrive about 10 minutes early so you'll have time to park and find a seat in our sanctuary.

Are you going to make a big deal about me being there?

No! Now, we can't help it when our members introduce themselves, say hello, and ask you about yourself. . . but we promise not to shine any lights on you, make you stand up, or be otherwise embarrassed. As pastors, we would love an opportunity to meet you. You can find us at the Welcome Center after the service. Generally, we are pretty easy to spot, but if you are having trouble finding us, just ask the loudest person where a pastor is. Chances are good you just found one of us!

What is Your Inclement Weather Policy?

Church-Wide Communication

  • In the event of a closing or delayed opening due to inclement weather or other emergency, an announcement will be placed prominently on the church website and an email will be sent out.  If you would like to be added to the email list please send your email address to prayers@fbccalvert.org .
  • Deacons will contact members that do not have email.
  • A determination of church services will be made and communicated as expeditiously as possible.  The goal is to make a determination by 8:00 am for morning and daytime operations and activities, and by 2:00 pm for evening activities.  Sometimes there are circumstances that make these timelines unrealistic.  We appreciate your understanding.

Worship Services, Sunday Programs, and Special Events

  • Every effort will be made to conduct Sunday morning worship and Sunday School.  Only extremely hazardous weather, impassable travel conditions, severe damage to facilities, and/or a power outage at the church will cause a cancellation.
  •  If at all possible, weddings, funerals, and major one‑time special events will be conducted as scheduled.
  • Cancellation of Sunday evening programs will be posted on the website by 2:00 pm and an email will be sent out.
  • Deacons will contact members that do not have email.

Program Activities (AWANA, etc.)

FBC program activities will follow the same schedule as Calvert County Public Schools.

  • If school is closed all program activities will be cancelled.
  • If school is delayed in the morning, all evening program activities will attempt to continue as scheduled.
  • If school is dismissed early, all evening programs will be cancelled.

Weekday Office Operations

The church office will remain open whenever possible.  Pastor will determine if the weather conditions are too extreme for the office to open and will call the affected personnel.
